'Game of Thrones' Actor Gets Part of His Ear Bitten Off

Clive Mantle as Greatjon Umber in "Game of Thrones"

In the world of "Game of Thrones," it's dangerous or just about any friend of the Starks, but, for actor Clive Mantle, it's rough even when he's not wearing a coat of arms.

The 55-year-old thespian from the hit HBO show – who plays Robb Stark's pal, Lord Greatjon Umber – was attacked in the U.K. on Sunday morning and had part of his ear bitten off, his agent told the Guardian.

Supposedly, Mantle was having a dispute about noise on the ground floor outside his Travelodge hotel room in Newcastle when the attack occurred. The actor underwent emergency surgery at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, where doctors sewed the top part of his ear back on.

"He is very shaken and shocked by what has happened. You don't expect this kind of thing to happen in a hotel," Mantle's spokesman said. "The part of the ear that was bitten off was found and sewn back on. Mr. Mantle said the police, ambulance, and hospital staff were amazing."

According to the newspaper, a 32-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent, and will face magistrates next month, while another man was released on bail and a third was released without being charged.

In the meantime, we're guessing Mantle is almost as excited as you are for the third season premiere of "Game of Thrones" this Sunday on HBO.
