New ‘Hunger Games’ clip shows off Katniss’ skills

With the hype for the big screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins's "The Hunger Games" growing by the day, fans have been clamouring for any new material as the release date approaches. Lionsgate seems only too happy to oblige them.

A new clip from the film provides a short glimpse of Katniss Everwood (Jennifer Lawrence) training with her bow and arrow and demonstrating her archery skill to a distracted group of Capitol elites.

Set in a future dystopia, the film follows a group of youths who have been selected to compete in the Hunger Games, a gruesome televised competition in which children and teenagers are pitted against one another in a fight to the death for the entertainment of the ruling classes. Geez, and you thought you had a rough childhood? This is "The Running Man" for tweens!

The clip is a great little moment that tells viewers a lot about Lawrence's character. Katniss is skilled, but clearly has a few issues with authority. It's a scene ripped right out of the pages of the book, something that should please fans who were worried about how faithful the film would be to the source material.

Directed by Gary Ross ("Pleasantville"), the film also stars Josh Hutcherson ("Journey 2"), Elizabeth Banks ("The Next Three Days"), Woody Harrelson ("Rampart"), Liam Hemsworth ("The Last Song"), and Donald Sutherland ("The Pillars of the Earth").

"The Hunger Games" opens March 23.
