Johnny Depp Picked Top ‘Hat Wearing’ Celebrity

In what will assuredly go down as his greatest life achievement, Johnny Depp has been named "Hat Person of the Year" by the Headwear Association (as opposed to the Headgear Association, its much dorkier cousin organization).

Depp received 38 percent of the votes in the online poll in which voters were asked to select their "favorite hat wearing celeb." Depp edged out Gwen Stefani (17 percent), Hugh Jackman (16 percent), Justin Timberlake (13 percent), Kate Hudson (9 percent) and Nicole Richie (7 percent).

The association -- which grandly purports to "promote hat wearing and the headwear industry throughout the world and foster goodwill and fellowship among those engaged in the headwear industry" -- contextualized Depp's hat wearing.

"Depp is rarely seen without a hat and favors wide brim fedoras. The shape is enjoying quite a heyday right now; similar styles can be seen on 'Mad Men,' 'The Adjustment Bureau' and wider brimmed fedoras were seen on the Paris, Milan and New York runways."

Better luck next year, Kate Middleton!
