Giada De Laurentiis’ Husband Hurt by John Mayer Rumors
When rumors surfaced last year that married TV chef Giada De Laurentiis was hooking up with infamous player John Mayer, "Everyday Italian" fans everywhere threw out their pancetta, mascarpone and artisanal gelato in protest. OK, so maybe reaction wasn't that dramatic; De Laurentiis and husband Todd Thompson, however, were humiliated by the tabloid gossip.
"The John Mayer incident was completely unexpected," De Laurentiis tells Redbook magazine. "I was shocked. Andnot so much for me, but for my husband and family. ... Todd wasembarrassed that his family in Michigan would see it and think, 'Whatis going on over there in Hollywood?'"
Last November, Star magazine cited unnamed sources as describing a so-called intimate encounter between the Food Network star and the musician at a hotel in New York. She immediately squashed the report, and so did Mayer's camp.
"I think the only things that could possibly have tied us together is that we were at the same hotel that weekend in question -- which, by the way, my husband was with me there as well," she says.
Let this be a lesson, Giada: Whoever speaks with John Mayer in a public setting -- even for five seconds -- will unfortunately be romantically linked with him in the press. Next time, avoid eye contact.
