Courteney Cox Admires David Arquette’s Rehab Resolution

After spiraling downward into an apparent nervous breakdown, David Arquette is beginning 2011 in rehab to seek treatment for his troubles. And even though she dumped Arquette several months ago, the actor's estranged wife Courteney Cox proudly supports his decision.

"I really admire David and his choice to take charge and better his life," Cox tells People magazine in a statement. "I love and support him."

Arquette reportedly checked into a Betty Ford Center, shortly before Lindsay Lohan was to check out in the ever-revolving door of celebrity patients. Prior to entering the facility, the 39-year-old actor had gone off the rails of sorts in a self-destructive stint of partying after announcing his split with Cox, the mother of his 6-year-old daughter Coco, in October.

In a desperate act of epically cringe-worthy proportions, Arquette (in)famously called up his friend Howard Stern to explain the breakup to the world. He told Stern, among other TMI talk, that he slept with another woman while separated from Cox. And in another revealing conversation with the radio host, the "Scream" star said he was heartbroken over the split and drinking a lot.

"When I drink, I become a maniac," he conceded last month.

According to People, Arquette is being treated for drinking and depression, not drugs.

Anyway, this is oft-repeated, but the first step is admitting you need help (and then getting it.) In this case, we too admire Arquette's courage in seeking treatment -- and we root for him along with Cox. But, yes, we cringe at/for him too. (Here's another New Year's resolution, David: Tone down the TMI.)
