Do You Buy Into Paris Hilton’s New Image?

So Paris Hilton is making headlines (again) for the infamous sex tape that leaked 7 years ago, effectively making her a star -- for better or worse.

"People assume, 'Oh she's a slut,' just because of one thng that happened to me," the celebutante told CNN's Piers Morgan in an emotional interview Tuesday night. "It's hard because I'll never ... I'll have to live with that for the rest of my life and explain it to my children, it's something that has changed my life forever and I'll never be able to erase it."

She calls ex-boyfriend Rick Salomon, who released the tape, a "bad person" whom she was in love with at the time of filming (2001, when she was 20 years old).

"When I was little I looked up to people like Princess Diana, these women, and I feel like he took that away from me," she said, consoling her mother, Kathy Hilton, who was crying.

Hilton's turnaround from brazen spoiled brat to misunderstood victim of fame marks an attempt to revamp her career a la Kim Kardashian, who transformed negative press from an unwanted sex tape into a mini-empire and positive public persona. Of course, the heiress takes full credit for her former BFF's popularity.

The Piers Morgan interview comes at a convenient time: Hilton is promoting her new Oxygen reality series, "The World According to Paris," which purports to show an honest portrayal of the tabloid fixture.

Given her past antics and history of vile behavior, do you think Hilton's act is genuine?
