Throwback Thursday: Why Is Sophia Bush Holding a Snake?

Then: Sophia Bush cozied up to a questionable friend on her first day of seventh grade in Pasadena, California, in this 1994 snapshot that's exclusive to omg!. She'd taken care of the corn snake, the class pet, over the summer and was ready to hand the reptile back to her biology teacher, Mr. Hallman.

Now: The "One Tree Hill" star has teamed up with Pencils of Promise to share her first day of school memory to help build schools and provide an education for kids in the developing world. She's asking that everyone do the same and post a photo of their first day back at school with the hashtag #GiveBackToSchool, because textbook company Chegg will donate $10 to the org for every pic posted on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Vine now through September 30. Pencils of Promise, which is also one of Justin Bieber's favorite charities, is a cause that Bush told us she holds close to her heart. "Education, particularly global education has always been a priority of mine," she says. "I don't think that where you live should govern how well you live. Every child deserves the same opportunities to have a great education, feel safe and to play. PoP allows lives to be made better because children can get educated and have any opportunity that they desire."

Spoken like a well-studied student …
