Throwback Thursday: Before Men in Heels Danced to ‘Wannabe,’ There Were the Spice Girls

Then: In this June 1997 snapshot shared on Twitter, the world was in the full throes of Spice Mania. The manufactured British girl group — composed of Sporty Spice, Scary Spice, Ginger Spice, Baby Spice, and Posh Spice — was already set to begin filming the movie "Spice World" that month, after their debut single, "Wannabe," went straight to No. 1 when it was released stateside in January of that year. More hits with references to "girl power" followed.

Now: The iconic Spice Girls are making what you could call a comeback if they had ever really gone away. They sent fans into a frenzy last summer when they reunited for a performance at the London 2012 Olympics, were on hand when the Spice Girls musical "Viva Forever!" debuted in London's West End in December, and constantly hint that another reunion is possible. But, while we wait for that to happen, choreographer Yanis Marshall and two male dancers have posted a video of themselves dancing to the act's signature song while wearing heels — in front of a crowd and under the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, no less. The ladies would be proud!
