Pierce Brosnan’s daughter Charlotte dies of ovarian cancer at age 41

Irish actor Pierce Brosnan's daughter Charlotte died of ovarian cancer in London on June 28. She was 41.

The 60-year-old "Ghost Writer" star released a statement this week to People magazine regarding his daughter's passing.

"On June 28 at 2 p.m. my darling daughter Charlotte Emily passed on to eternal life, having succumbed to ovarian cancer," Brosnan said. "Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl."

Brosnan adopted Charlotte when he married his first wife, Australian actress Cassandra Harris, in 1977. Having battled cancer for three years, Charlotte passed away with her family around her, including partner Alex Smith, her two children, Isabelle and Lucas, and her brother, Christopher, and half-brother, Sean. Pierce also reportedly flew into the U.K. from Eastern Europe, where he was filming "November Man," to be with her.

"We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon," he said. "We thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences."

Pierce met Charlotte's mother, Cassandra, in 1974 when he was introduced by her nephew, David, a drama school buddy of Pierce's. The couple reportedly married three years later.

"It just felt so right, only because Cassie had such faith in me and we had such a wonderful outlook on life," Pierce told Cigar Aficionado in 1997. "I didn't feel like a father, I wasn't a father; I was just Pierce. And then I became Daddy Pierce. And then I became Daddy."

According to the Guardian, Charlotte adopted the last name Brosnan in 1986, five years after her mom became famous for playing a Bond girl in the 1981 film "For Your Eyes Only."

Charlotte's mother died from ovarian cancer in 1991 at the age of 43 after a four-year battle, having reportedly lost her own mother to the same disease as a teenager.

A few years after Charlotte's death, Pierce met journalist Keely Shaye Smith. They married in 2001 and have two sons together.
