The JuiceKate Middleton Speaks in First-Ever Recorded Broadcast Message
For years, Kate Middleton has earned rave reviews for her ability to act like a lady while looking like a movie star (no easy feat), but the Duchess of Cambridge, who celebrates her second wedding anniversary today, has rarely spoken in public, and never for a formal broadcast -- until now.
For the first time ever, the stunning royal lent her support, and her voice, to a cause dear to her heart: Children's Hospice Week. Wearing a black Topshop dress with a white collar, Middleton sat with her hands clasped in her lap in a simple room adorned with a few family photos and a small vase of daffodils to record the spot. In fact, if it weren't for her 18-carat sapphire and diamond engagement ring glinting at the camera, you might have forgotten she is the future queen of England at all -- and we mean that in a good way.
As for her actual message -- for lack of a better phrase -- Middleton nailed it. In a gently lilting voice, the 31-year-old mother-to-be made her emotional and earnest case for the UK's Together for Short Lives charity.
"I have been fortunate to see first hand the remarkable work that they do for children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families. It is simply transformational," she explained. "Children's Hospice Week is a time to recognize, celebrate and support the inspirational work of these hospices, and those who provide palliative care to these children and families. Children's hospices provide lifelines to families at a time of unimaginable pain. The support they give is vital."
As photos of Middleton with some of these children in need appeared on-screen, she continued her articulate plea.
"In order to carry out this wonderful work, our help is needed. With our support, those providing children's palliative care can continue to offer these extraordinary service," she said, raising her brow ever-so-slightly. "It does not bear thinking about what these families would do without this. ... With your support, we can help ensure that these children and their families can make the most of the precious time they have together."
Though this isn't the first time we've heard Middleton speak, it is one of the few. Somehow, Prince William's better half has managed to keep a quiet profile directly in the spotlight since her engagement announcement roughly two-and-a-half years ago.
While it's certain that the beauty went into this broadcast with some nerves considering that it's (rumored to be) one of the most dreaded hurdles in learning to become a royal, she clearly passed with flying colors. More importantly, however, she genuinely seems to mean what she is saying, and these days, that counts for a lot.
