Did Taylor Swift admit that ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ is about Harry Styles?

Taylor Swift knew Harry Styles was trouble from the very beginning.

In a new interview with the U.K.'s Sunday Times, the 23-year-old "I Knew You Were Trouble" singer appeared to admit that the third single from her album "Red" is about the One Direction star.

Swift made the big reveal while discussing what it was like performing at the BRIT awards last month, which Styles is known to have attended. Swift told the Times, "It's not hard to access that emotion when the person the song is about is standing by the side of the stage watching."

According to the Huffington Post, Swift tweeted a lyric from "I Knew You Were Trouble" the day after the couple reportedly split in January 2013. Rumour has it that the song was written about 19-year-old Styles after they briefly dated following the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards in 2012. Though they broke up after only a short time together, they reunited in November 2012, a month after "Red" was released, only to split for good two months later.

Rumours swirled in February that Swift was taking aim at her ex when she seemed to mock a Styles-esque British accent during her Grammy Awards performance of “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”

“So he calls me up and he’s like, ‘Ah still loovve you,’” she sang during the ceremony. “And I’m like, 'I’m sorry, I’m busy opening up the Grammys. And we are never getting back together!'”

So, are there any clues that the song is about Styles? Not explicitly, although the track's lyrics would no doubt sting anyone who suspected it was about him. Though Swift sings "It's not really anything he said or anything he did/ It was the feeling that came along with it," other lyrics seem to suggest "he" wasn't entirely gentlemanly.

At the beginning of the tune, Swift seems make a reference about her fame not affecting her ex when they first met, but she could also be referring to the blasé attitude he took toward their romance. "I guess you didn't care, and I guess I liked that," she sings.

Later on, the country singer appears to accuse the subject of treating their relationship lightly. "Now I heard you moved on from whispers on the street," she sings. "A new notch in your belt is all I'll ever be."

Swift seems to reiterate the feeling that her ex is not serious about anyone. "And the saddest fear comes creeping in/ That you never loved me or her, or anyone, or anything, yeah," the lyrics go.

Ouch! Whether or not that song is about Harry Styles, it is undeniably cringeworthy.
