Dick Van Dyke Survives Car Explosion

It may be awhile before Dick Van Dyke is making jokes about this one.

The iconic funnyman walked away from what could have been a truly horrific car accident Monday. He was pulled from his Jaguar after it burst into flames on L.A.'s 101 freeway.

The 87-year-old actor was rescued from his burning vehicle by a fellow commuter, Jason Pennington, who told TMZ he stopped after seeing a car full of smoke on the side of the roadway. Once he pulled over, Pennington says he saw Van Dyke struggling to free himself.

Pennington was able to open the door and pull the former star of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" from the car just as the flames ignited in the engine.

Luckily, Van Dyke was not injured and his wife, Arlene, picked up him from the scene.

She tweeted a Vine video of the "melted car," saying, "He's fine thank God!!" which the actor then retweeted from his personal Twitter account.

Talk about a close call!

Can you believe the veteran actor escaped without a scratch on him?
