Andy Garcia’s daughter Dominik Garcia-Lorido’s star is on the rise, but that doesn’t mean she’s too big to be her dear old dad’s red-carpet date.
The veteran actor attended the Hollywood premiere of “A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charlie Swan III” on Monday and was accompanied by the 29-year-old beauty. The eldest of the Garcia’s four children, Dominik stood out in the crowd … partially because the statuesque brunette stood taller than her father in her black heels.
Dominik – whose form-fitting, long strapless black velvet dress flattered her 5-foot-9-inch frame – is starting to become more of a red carpet fixture since she landed a role on the Starz series “Magic City.” The show, which is set in Miami in 1959 after the Cuban Revolution, will return to TV for a second season in April. The role is a perfect fit for Miami-born Dominik seeing as both her famous father and mother, Marivi Lorido García, are Cuban American.
As for her own goals in Hollywood, Dominik has said she’s thinking big – and learning from her father. “I love acting,” she told Huffington Post in 2012. “I would really love to produce my own stuff and other stuff. My dad always produces and I would always sit in producers’ meetings with him. I like the whole thing of putting a movie together. I think that’s very exciting."
While Andy, 56, has taught Dominik the ins and outs of the business, the actor – best known for roles in movies from “The Godfather Part III” to “Ocean’s Eleven” – has also tried to make her life as normal as possible, which has included being an overinvolved dad at times.
“When I played junior high basketball, he would run up and down the court yelling, ‘Keep the pressure!’ in all the girls' faces,” Dominik laughingly recalled to People magazine in 2010. “My coach ended up quitting.” Garcia, a huge basketball fan and fixture courtside at Los Angeles Lakers games, admitted, “I was emotionally involved,” but added, “I'm very proud of all my kids. My girls have been great examples for what a young girl should be.”
Dominik isn’t the only member of Andy’s brood to accompany him to Hollywood events, he’s also “proud” to step out with Daniella, 25, Alessandra, 21, and his son, Andres, 11 – as well as work with them. All four appeared in 2005’s “Lost City,” which he directed and starred in.
