Pop star Rihanna is famous for her polarizing looks, and the world premiere of her new movie "Battleship" (in which she makes her acting debut) in Tokyo on Tuesday was no exception. The 24-year-old songstress donned an Emilio Pucci Fall 2012 blue-and-gold ensemble that some media outlets called bizarre, but others, like fashion-forward blogs, said was just good style. Along with her controversial outfit, RiRi wore her locks, which she recently dyed black and partly shaved, over one shoulder, bared some major cleavage, and added a necklace and tan sandals, which some mistakenly took for bare feet. The "Only Girl (In the World)" singer is not the first to try out the pajama-inspired look. Others who have sported the spring trend include Jessica Alba and Matt Damon.

She opened up about her style evolution during a chat with fellow artist Kanye West that was published in Interview magazine. "Well, I would say that in the beginning of my career, I didn't have a lot of input in what I wore and stuff, but it was a very, innocent, girly look," she said in 2010. "Then after we put out [third album] Good Girl Gone Bad, it kind of became a darker, edgier look, and then it got even edgier on the last album [Rated R]." The singer has since released the albums Loud and Talk That Talk, and, you guessed it, her looks have become more daring. "I always like something that's a little off, so it's just not typical or expected," she explained.

Rihanna's sure to be wearing some interesting outfits in "Battleship," which is based on the classic board game, and follows a fleet of ships in battle. She plays a weapons specialist and stars alongside "John Carter's" Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard, and Brooklyn Decker. The movie hits theaters May 18.

Fingers crossed Rihanna's performance doesn't cause as much debate!
