David Arquette: I Had My First Beer at Age 4

In his first interview since leaving rehab last month, David Arquette opened up to Oprah Winfrey on Thursday about his struggles with drugs and alcohol from a young age, his strained marriage to Courteney Cox, and his plan to become a better man.

The "Scream 4" star revealed that his troubles started very early in life -- turns out he had his first taste of beer when he was just 4 years old. "I was down in the basement with my dad and the beer was there and I just grabbed it and drank it, I remember that," Arquette told Oprah. "It's one of my earliest memories. I seriously started drinking probably when I was about 12. I stole pot from my father when I was eight years old."

After indulging in some wild behavior after his split from Cox last October, the 39-year-old entered rehab at the beginning of January for alcohol addiction. "I came back from Miami and I had taken a nap. I woke up and [my sister] Patricia [Arquette] and Courteney were at my bed," he recalls. "Courteney had a cup of coffee. I was like, 'What are you two doing here together?' I already knew. I peeked my head out and [I saw] my best friend Hartwell, my business partner, and some guy I don't know. I go, 'What up, Turkeys? I guess this is my intervention!'"

Arquette told Oprah that he still holds out hope that he and Cox can rekindle their relationship, but ultimately, it's her decision. "I want her to be happy," he said. "If me being the best person I can be doesn't make her happy in a partner, in who she needs, whatever she's looking for, that's still to be answered."

"We truly love each other with all our hearts," he continued, adding, "Whether it's as friends or as husband and wife, I know that I'll be with her my whole life."
