Jim Carrey’s career is flying high at the moment. He'll soon be seen as Colonel Stars and Stripes in "Kick Ass 2," he just signed on to the highly-anticipated “Dumb and Dumber” sequel, and he’s busy promoting "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone," his latest comedy with Steve Carrell.

But in all this recent success, Carrey is still keeping his feet on the ground. His very, very, comically over-sized prosthetic feet, that is.

For the 51-year-old comedian’s appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman” this week, Carrey added some flare to his stage entrance with a fun little dance, an impressive achievement since he was wearing two giant fake feet instead of shoes.

“I’m going through a bit of a growth spurt,” he explained to a particularly perplexed Letterman. “I think it’s the new testosterone cream I’m using.”

And because it would just be weird not to have an accessory for the enormous feet, Carrey paired them with a tiny set of feathered wings (“My puny angel wings,” said Carrey) on the back of his suit jacket. Unfortunately, according to Letterman, they “make no sense.”

“You see, this is really something I put on every once in a while to signify my awkward spiritual journey,” Carrey said earnestly. “Because, I really, honestly, I feel like I have a lot of peace in my soul right now. And I love people, but if you hit me, I’ll take your eye out. And I’ll feed it right to you.”

He continued, “I haven’t really gotten the forgiveness thing down, but I do, honest to gosh, I do really feel peaceful… It’s like feeling like you’re in heaven already. This is the gift, right here.”

People were first perplexed by Carrey’s odd ensemble at Elton John’s Oscars viewing party last month, which Carrey explained by calling himself a “Strangel.” On “The Late Show,” he continued to make jokes about his enlightenment, but Carrey insisted that he’s not a few cards short of a full deck.

“Of course, [critics] have to [think I’m crazy]. They have to think I’m nuts, because if I’m not nuts, that means they’re nuts, and they have to change. And it doesn’t matter anyway, because there is no ‘they’ and there is no ‘I,’” he responded. “There is no ‘Jim Carrey’ and there is no ‘David Letterman,’ there is just the space in which funny happens.”

And at that, Carrey placed his oversized bipeds onto Letterman’s desk and took a sip of his mug – classic Jim Carrey comedic timing. Letterman simply responded, “Wow,” and changed the subject to Carrey’s three-year-old grandson.

No matter the gigantic body part or miniature flight apparatus, it seems that Carrey is healthy and happy (and isn’t too shook up by the breakup with his 20-something girlfriend). We hope he continues on this “awkward spiritual journey,” one giant step at a time.
