Steven Tyler quits ‘American Idol,’ Jennifer Lopez unsure if she’ll return

The "American Idol" judges are dropping like flies. Just hours after Jennifer Lopez said during a "Today" interview that "it's time for me to go," the Aerosmith frontman (and king of the wacky one-liners) shocked everyone when he announced he was quitting the Fox singing competition after two seasons to focus on his iconic rock band. "After some long ... hard ... thoughts … I've decided it's time for me to let go of my mistress 'American Idol' before she boils my rabbit," Tyler said in a statement, referring to the movie "Fatal Attraction" in which Glenn Close's character cooks her lover's daughter's pet. "I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I'm back — but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I got two fists in the air and I'm kicking the door open with my band."

Although Tyler, 64, described his time on "Idol" as "over-the-top fun," he added, "Now it's time to bring rock back." And he will be come November 6 when Aerosmith releases its 15th album, Music From Another Dimension!, which the singer said would be invading "the Earth, Moon, Mars, and way beyond the stars." And it will have an 'Idol' mark on it — both winner Carrie Underwood and last year's runner-up Lauren Alaina are featured as guest vocalists.

On the "Today" show, Lopez hinted that "little by little I'm making up my mind" about whether or not to remain on the show, alongside Randy Jackson who has been a judge since Season 1. "I love everybody," said the singer-actress, who is currently on tour with Enrique Iglesias, "but I'm thinking it's time for me to go and do other things I love to do, like films. It's a huge decision, but I have to say there are so many things I do that I put on hold for that. It's a heartbreaking decision if I have to go."

Whispers of Lopez, 42, leaving the show have been going around for some time. Amongst the names that have come up to replace her (and now Tyler, too) have been former contestant Adam Lambert, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, and inexplicably, Charlie Sheen. Who would you like to see sitting at the judges' table?
