Solange Knowles releases artsy music video for ‘Losing You’

Beyonce who? The "Single Ladies" singer's younger sister is making a name for herself in the music industry, thanks to her brand new single, "Losing You," and its artsy music video. Filmed in Cape Town, South Africa, the clip features the 26-year-old dancing throughout a poor neighborhood in brightly-colored outfits (and a huge afro) with an eccentric entourage of people dressed in equally-crazy fashions.

"When [director Melina Matsoukas] and I decided to film 'Losing You' in South Africa, we really didn't have a real firm concept in place," Solange explains to Pitchfork.com. "It was sort of a grab a camera and let's go moment. I knew I wanted to capture a couple things: the vibe of our friendship and all of the crazy escapades we've gotten ourselves into all over the world, and the abstract and elegant Le Sape Society (Society for the Advancement of People of Elegance) formed in the Congo which was documented by Daniele Tamagni in his Gentleman of Bacongo book. We called Daniele to guide us, and some of my friends from New York came down to Cape Town and we all had a very damn good time."

The '80s-esque song, the first off her upcoming (and still untitled) third album, was just released on Monday, but it's already causing a lot of buzz from fans and critics alike. Spin magazine describes "Losing You" as a "remarkable song in its own right, with a breezy fusion of singer-centric R&B, 1980s pop, and lanky, mid-tempo hip house beats," while the L.A. Times said it has a "snappy, relaxed groove that sounds as if it had been unearthed from a dusty '80s jukebox."

On Tuesday, Solange tweeted that she was "So humbled, & grateful for the overwhelming response."
