Rihanna alludes to Chris Brown romance in dark ‘Diamonds’ music video

Rihanna's "Diamonds" music video is not very sparkly — it's downright dark! The singer debuted the nearly-5-minute video on Thursday, and in it, she broods throughout a myriad of backdrops. "Diamonds" begins with Rihanna rolling a joint filled with the gems, and then smoking before a quick visual of her hand being ripped from a tattooed man's hand ... obviously a nod to Chris Brown. She's then shown running in the darkness from a bright light before ending up in the wild with two horses (one is lame and lying on the ground until the other helps it up and they run off together). At the end of the video, Rihanna wanders through an apocalyptical scene with dirt on her face as a man on fire walks calmly through the melee.

Although the single off her November 19 seventh album, Unapologetic, has not been the most well-received by fans because of its simple lyrics and monotonous chorus, Rihanna says it has special meaning to her. "It was the right powerful record," she tells MTV. "It was hopeful. It was also different from what people are used to hearing from me. It was a song that meant something, and that's the whole theme throughout the album."

Also on Apologetic is a track called "Nobody's Business," a duet with on-again love Brown about how people need to butt out of their rekindled relationship. "I think a lot of people are afraid of being happy because of what others might think of it," she says in the interview. "They're afraid to embrace that and embrace themselves and love themselves and do what they love and do what makes them happy … My story is definitely going to be a happily ever after, no matter what."

It remains to be seen if it will include Brown. On Wednesday night, while Rihanna was in New York City to tape a performance on the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, he and ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran were spotted at the same Los Angeles nightclub.
