Nicki Minaj to join Mariah Carey as ‘American Idol’ judge: report

When Nicki Minaj performed on "American Idol" in March, she hinted that she'd like to one day sit at the judges' table, to which Jennifer Lopez quickly shot back, "I don't know if there's enough room for both of us." Well, now that J.Lo is gone, perhaps now there is space for the booty-ful rapper. Us Weekly is reporting that the "Pound the Alarm" singer will be joining new judge Mariah Carey when the singing competition returns next year for its 12th season.

"I'm not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it," one insider tells the magazine. "A few more slight things to sign off on but it is happening." A second source also confirms to Us Weekly that Minaj, 29, is "100 percent confirmed to judge 'American Idol'" — although both the rapper and Fox have declined to comment on the report.

Carey joined the show last month, four years after she first appeared on it as a mentor during Season 7. "As a singer, songwriter and producer, it's going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with 'American Idol,'" she said in a statement on July 23. "I can't wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon."

No official word yet if Randy Jackson will return as a judge next season or be relegated to a different role on the show. Nick Jonas, Pharrell Williams, and former "Idol" alum Adam Lambert have all been rumored to fill Jackson's seat.

Do you think Nicki would be a good addition to "American Idol"?
