Elton John: Dad of the Year?

Elton John has received many accolades over the years. He has six Grammys, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, and has even been knighted by HM Queen Elizabeth II for his "services to music and charitable services." Now, the "Rocket Man" singer and his partner, David Furnish, have been nominated to win the Celebrity Dads of the Year award -- in England that is. The first-time fathers welcomed their son, Zachary, into the world last Christmas thanks to the help of a surrogate mother, and are reportedly "thrilled" that they're in the running for the special honor.

According to the organizers of this year's poll, which is sponsored by Premiere Inn, the title aims to "reward the celebrity dad who has impressed the nation by balancing a hectic public life with the demands of parenting."

Elton, 63, has said that although he is incredibly famous, he wants Zachary to have a normal upbringing. "I so value my own childhood now, and we want to give Zachary -- as much as we possibly can -- the same thing. A solid old-fashioned childhood, if you like. I know it'll be hard with my life," he continued, "but we want him to have that same normality and for things in life to have real value. So we don't intend to spoil him -- we're going to try to give him a fun, carefree time of innocence, freedom, love, and stability."

Sounds like they're good parents to me! Elton and David's competition for the Celebrity Dad of the Year includes soccer stars David Beckham and Wayne Rooney, and Take That's Gary Barlow. If you really care who wins the British honor, click here to cast your vote!
