Ashlee Simpson announces new single, gives sneak peek at music video

Trick or treat? On Wednesday, Ashlee Simpson announced that she will be releasing a new song, her first in four years, on November 21. "Happy Halloween! As promised, here's a little tease of what's to come!" she tweeted, along with a link to her website where a 50-second black-and-white video of the track, which may be called "Bat for a Heart" (her hashtag for the tweet), is playing. In the clip, the 28-year-old sings, "I'm going to bang bang f--k you up/twist you out inside of my head," as she writhes around on the ground and against a wall in heavy eye makeup. She even pulls out some impressive ballet moves!

Not long after Simpson's announcement, her big sister Jessica tweeted her support. "You have always been so much cooler than me," she wrote, adding a smiley face emoticon.

Last July, Simpson opened up to Nylon magazine about her fourth album, which was partly-recorded at the time. "I'm really proud of the sounds and I'm really excited for it to be an artistic venture," she said. "The sound is a little soulful, a little electronic."

Then this past August, it was revealed that Simpson — who was famously lampooned after she was caught lip-synching during her "Saturday Night Live" performance in October 2004 — was working with Linda Perry, who is responsible for some of the biggest hits from Christina Aguilera, Pink, and Gwen Stefani.

Simpson's last album, 2008's Bittersweet World, debuted at No. 4 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, but was still a disappointment compared to the her two previous, Autobiography and I Am Me, which both went all the way to No. 1 during their first week of release.
