Most Unforgettable Moments of the Golden Globes

Coverage of 69th Annual Golden Globes

The Golden Globes are known as the awards show where guests and nominees aren't afraid to cut loose. This year, there will no doubt be moments where guests let down their elaborate hairdos and kick off their platform heels on Jan. 15. One of them could even rival some of the more dramatic moments from the past ceremonies, like these five highlights.

1. Angelina Jolie takes a dive
Angelina Jolie jumped into a pool during an Access Hollywood interview, taking the reporter in with her. It was just after Jolie had won a Golden Globe for the 1998 film "Gia." She would later attribute things like her fully clothed dip to her "years of exploration," telling reporters, "I would say there's a way of being bold when you're young that seems very brave. What's perceived as tough is a very funny thing. I think to be a parent is one of the scariest, boldest things to do. Much more than jumping into a pool when you're 20."

2. Jack Nicholson bends over backward
In 1998, Jack Nicholson offered a tribute to "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" after winning a Golden Globe for "As Good as It Gets." The actor turned around and allowed his behind to do the talking, in honor of fellow nominee Jim Carrey.

3. Scarlett Johansson's red carpet encounter
The stunning actress had an awkward exchange with Isaac Mizrahi in 2006, when the fashion designer "groped" her on the red carpet during an E! interview. His actions left Johansson "sort of shocked," she later told reporters. "I'd been preparing for two hours with hair and makeup and getting dressed. Mostly I was thinking, 'Oh my God. This is happening on live TV."

4. Where's the winner?
Christine Lahti was nowhere to be found as her category was announced and Michael J. Fox called her up as the winner for her role on "Chicago Hope." There was an uncomfortable live moment where "no one was really sure what to do" in her absence. It turned out the actress was taking a bathroom break at an inopportune moment. "I was just flushing the toilet and someone said, 'You won,' and I thought they were joking!" Lahti later said.

5. Ricky Gervais insults at will
As the host of the 2011 ceremony, Ricky Gervais held nothing back. In addition to insulting celebs like Bruce Willis and films like "The Tourist," he even dug into the president of the group behind the Golden Globes, claiming "I just had to help him off the toilet and pop in his teeth." There were obviously no grudges held, as Gervais is back again to host this year. Tune in to Yahoo! on January 15 to find out what he has to say this time around.
