Tom Cruise takes Suri on a helicopter ride on second day together

Tom Cruise is definitely trying to win the title of most-fun parent. On Wednesday, the second day of his visit with daughter Suri in New York City, he took her for a helicopter tour of the Big Apple. The "Mission: Impossible" star carried the 6-year-old, who was decked out in an orange sundress and pink flip-flops with her hair braided, from their chauffeured car to the awaiting Liberty chopper. After lift-off, little Suri could be seen peering out the window at the city's skyline. "They didn't look stressed," an eyewitness tells People. "They seemed happy to me." According to TMZ, the helicopter ride was just the beginning … because the duo had an "action-packed day ahead of them."

Cruise, 50, flew to NYC from California overnight on Monday and instantly snapped back into daddy mode after more than a month of being away from his daughter. They spent much of the day hanging out in his suite at the Greenwich Hotel before the actor brought Suri to an afternoon gymnastics class at Chelsea Piers in an effort to keep her on a schedule amid her famous parents' sudden divorce. Cruise and estranged wife Katie Holmes, 33, will reportedly have no contact while he's in town to see Suri. The actress was granted primary custody of their daughter in their July 11 divorce settlement, with Cruise getting a "meaningful" amount of visitation. While he was out with Suri on Wednesday, Holmes worked off her stress with a SoulCycle spinning class.

Although Cruise and Suri hadn't been together since Holmes brought her to Iceland, where he was filming "Oblivion," for Father's Day, the two have kept in contact via Skype. "He's wanted to see her as fast as possible since this started," a source, who blames the movie's production on keeping them apart so long, tells People. "He couldn't shut down production, cost people their jobs. People count on him."

As for his split from Holmes, the "blindsided" Cruise is "sad," but not "bitter," says his lawyer Bert Fields, who adds that the couple's quickie divorce was in the best interest of their child. "Tom tried his best to do what's right for Suri."
