Suri Cruise pouts over a puppy

How much is that doggie in the window? For Katie Holmes, it didn't actually matter. Her daughter, Suri Cruise, wasn't going to get the adorable Yorkshire Terrier-Maltese mix she was eyeing at a Manhattan pet store over the weekend. And 6-year-old Suri clearly wasn't happy about her mom's decision, prompting the pout that's now being seen round the world.

And who can blame the little girl for being bummed? After Suri clearly got the bad news that the little fluffball wouldn't be coming home with her, the pet store employee continued to dangle the precious pup in front of her. By the time Katie and Suri got back in their car, poor Suri was in full-blown tears.

Could it be that Katie feels that her and Suri's lives are simply too in flux these days to throw a four-legged friend into the mix right now? Less than three weeks ago the 33-year-old former "Dawson's Creek" star filed for divorce from her husband of nearly six years, mega-star Tom Cruise. Since then, details have emerged that Katie had her exit plan in the works for quite some time, and the decision was reportedly based in part on the fact that she didn't want Suri raised as a Scientologist, a religion Cruise is practically synonymous with. Since announcing the separation, Katie — who was raised Catholic — has reportedly registered as a parishioner with a local Catholic church near her apartment and signed Suri up at Catholic school.

But other than the puppy problem, Suri has looked like one happy little girl lately. Since the split, Katie and Suri have been out and about having plenty of non-stop fun in the city, noshing on ice cream, visiting a children's museum, hitting up an Alice In Wonderland-themed tea room, and going to gymnastics class at New York athletic complex Chelsea Piers.

When Katie finally gives in and gets Suri a canine companion (and we know that day will come sooner or later), let's hope she skips the pet store and heads for a shelter instead. The dog will be just as sweet, we swear!
