Jason Segel holds hands with Michelle Williams’ daughter Matilda

It's getting serious between "How I Met Your Mother's" Jason Segel and Oscar-nominated actress Michelle Williams! The proof is in a pic snapped Wednesday as Segel, 32, strolled hand-in-hand with Williams' 6-year-old daughter Matilda in NYC. Williams, 31, who's scheduled to appear at Comic-Con in San Diego this week to promote her "Wizard of Oz" prequel "Oz: The Great and Powerful," was nowhere to be seen. However, Segel and Matilda, Williams' daughter with the late Heath Ledger, appeared to be a content twosome, smiling and chatting as they walked around the Big Apple.

The unlikely romance between Segel and Williams — she seems so serious and he's known as a bit of a goofball — began in March, after they were introduced by Williams' former "Dawson's Creek" co-star and Segel's former "Freaks and Geeks" co-star Busy Philipps. So far, the two have been fairly mum on their relationship, but a Segel source revealed to Us Weekly in June that the couple are "totally in love." Segel, the source added, was becoming a family man, "doing all sorts of 'dad stuff' with [Matilda], like drawing and playing music."

The fact that Segel and Matilda get along is no surprise. Segel's a lot like a kid himself! The actor played a big part in getting last year's family film "The Muppets" made. "I think that it's important for kids to have the same experience [I] had with the Muppets," executive producer, co-writer, and star Segel told omg! last year. "I think it would be selfish to just leave them for our generation. They're such a force for good, and they teach such nice lessons about teamwork and the idea of being better together than you are apart. And they never get laughs at other people's expense."

Segel's passed one big relationship test by winning over Matilda. But do you think he'll replace Philipps as Williams' date at next year's Oscars?
