Drew Barrymore welcomes a baby girl named Olive

Drew Barrymore is a first-time mom!

"We are proud to announce the birth of our daughter, Olive Barrymore Kopelman, born September 26th, healthy, happy and welcomed by the whole family," the 37-year-old actress and her new husband, Will Kopelman, 35, said in a statement on Monday. "Thank you for respecting our privacy during this most special time in our lives."

The name Olive, which is a symbol of peace and victory, is a special one for the actress. In 1999, Barrymore voiced the title character in the animated TV special "Olive, the Other Reindeer," about a Jack Russell Terrier who saved Christmas. But Barrymore isn't the only celebrity to name an offspring Olive. In 2007, Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen gave the moniker to their first born — and since then the name has experienced a big boom in popularity.

Barrymore and Kopelman, who started dating in 2010, were married in June in the backyard of her $5.7 million Montecito, California, estate. In a recent interview with Haute Living, the actress said she's putting her acting career on hold to focus on other projects, including her own wine label and behind-the-scenes endeavors. "I'm more into directing and photography, so I'm trying to focus on that," Barrymore told the magazine. "To be quite honest, I'm happy in my own life. I don't need to play at being someone else right now. Acting is something I've done my whole life, but directing is great. I get to be in my own clothes and go home to my husband, and that seems really normal and fun and feels very creative."

While she has been largely tight-lipped about her pregnancy, Barrymore did talk about starting a family with Kopelman, who is an art consultant. "I can't wait until I have my children," she said. "I love the idea that they don't have to do something that they have no interest in, that they can do something completely opposite if they want to. I will be so surprised if they don't want to do something involving food or wine or art, but I'll be OK with it. I just want to build fun, great things for my family."
