Celebrity Moms Who Gave Birth After 40

Celine Dion recently announced that she is pregnant with her second child. The 41-year-old Canadian singer and her manager/husband, Rene Angelil, welcomed a baby boy, Rene-Charles, in 2001. Sources now reveal that while they were going through in vitro back then, the couple put some embryos away so they could give their son a sibling.

Dion joins a growing list of older celebrity moms who've beaten the odds and given birth over age 40, most with the help of reproductive technologies (and if you think that's old, keep in mind that Celine's husband, Rene, is 67). Here are some other stars who've embraced motherhood later in life.

Nicole Kidman, Pregnant at 40
Nicole Kidman had adopted two children while married to Tom Cruise but had never given birth. She admitted to Us Weekly that when she and Keith Urban married, she was longing to get pregnant. Nic's wish came true in 2008. After trying for a while without success, she dubbed Sunday Rose a "miracle baby," crediting the "pristine waters" of Western Australia in which she swam while filming "Australia" for the seven production babies who were conceived during the shoot.

Brooke Shields, Pregnant at 41
Brooke Shields had a famously difficult battle with postpartum depression following the birth of her first child, Rowan, in 2003. With the help of medication, she was able to overcome the condition, but she became the object of Tom Cruise's "Today" show rant against antidepressants in 2005. Yet despite all the stress of baby #1, Brooke and her husband, Chris Henchy, decided they were ready to attempt in vitro again. Much to Brooke's surprise, she says she became pregnant before they even started the process. Baby girl #2, Grier Hammond, was born in April 2006, and although Shields braced herself for another struggle with postpartum depression, she says no symptoms arose this time around.

Halle Berry, Pregnant at 42
Halle Berry had not been lucky in love. With two failed marriages behind her and no children of her own (although she'd adopted the daughter of her second husband, Eric Benet, while they were together), Halle had sworn off the idea of ever walking down the aisle. Well, so far, she's sticking to that plan. But in 2005 she met model Gabriel Aubrey, and they fell in love. A little more than two years later, the 42-year-old Oscar winner gave birth to their daughter, Nahla Ariela.

Madonna, Pregnant at 42
Madonna started making headlines again in 2000, when gossips' tongues were wagging that Madge and her new boyfriend, director Guy Ritchie, were expecting a baby. The Material Girl already had a daughter with her ex, Carlos Leone, and just five days before her 42nd birthday, she welcomed a son, Rocco. Guy and Madonna married, adopted a baby boy from Malawi, and then split up. But Madonna became a mother one more time -- adopting a little girl on her own -- in 2009.

Annette Bening, Pregnant at 42
There are still alot of people who can't believe that legendary bachelor Warren Beattytook himself off the market in 1992 to marry Annette Bening. Even moresurprising is that Beatty asked his "Bugsy" co-star to have his babieson their first date. Annette and Warren started dating soon afterwrapping the film, in which he directed and starred with the rising starlet. While sharing ice cream at the end of their first official night out,Warren asked Annette, "Do you want to have kids with me?" Her answerwas yes. They went on to have four children together: the youngest,Ella, was born when Annette was 42 and Warren was 63.

Susan Sarandon, Pregnant at 43 and 45
Susan Sarandon has said that she never had a burning desire to have children, so she wasn't devastated when doctors told her she was infertile. The 39-year-old actress never saw it coming when she found herself expecting a child with her then-boyfriend, Italian director Franco Amurri. But she found that she loves motherhood, and she and her current partner, Tim Robbins, have had two children together.

Marcia Cross, Pregnant at 44
Just a couple of months after tying the knot with stockbroker Tom Mahoney, Marcia Cross was pregnant with twins. The 44-year-old actress gave birth to two daughters, Eden and Savannah. Cross says she'd gone into the pregnancy with her eyes wide open to the risks of having children as an older mother and had considered surrogacy and adoption. Still, giving birth later in life must have seemed like a walk in the park compared to how her "Desperate Housewives" character got her last child: she pretended to be the birth mother of her teen daughter's secret love child.

Jane Kaczmarek, Pregnant at 42, 44, and 47
Jane Kaczmarek really came into her own in her forties. She landed a career-changing (and multi-Emmy nominated) TV role on "Malcolm in the Middle" and gave birth to three children. The babies, with husband Bradley Whitford, came when Jane was 42, 44, and 47. Finding the balancing act difficult, Jane took time off from work after "Malcolm" wrapped in 2006. Sadly, her 16-year marriage to Whitford hasn't fared as well as her acting and parenting roles. Earlier this year, the pair announced they are getting a divorce.

Geena Davis, Pregnant at 46 and 48
It's pretty incredible that actress Geena Davis gave birth to her first child at age 46. More incredible still was the arrival of twins two years later. Davis may have started motherhood late in life with her husband, neurosurgeon Reza Jarrahy. But she was too busy getting married and divorced -- three times, in fact, to restaurant manager Richard Emmolo, director Renny Harlin, and actor Jeff Goldblum.

Beverly D'Angelo, Pregnant at 49
Beverly D'Angelo had been dating film legend Al Pacino for four years when she gave birth to his twins in 2001. She was 49 years old. But happiness was fleeting for the couple, who split up and entered into a very messy and very public custody battle. After lots of court dates and bitter accusations, the exes came to a seemingly amicable settlement and now share custody of the kids.
