The Unofficial Car of Teen Heartthrobs
So you're a young, single guy in Hollywood who makes the ladies scream, with plenty of money to spend. You want something that says "I have a sexy car," but also "I care about the environment." What kind of ride should you buy? There's just one: the hybrid Fisker Karma, which will set you back at least $105,000 … and that's without the customization that you'll surely want.
Justin Bieber, Joe Jonas, and Taylor Lautner have made the flashy car the unofficial vehicle for young celeb guys. (Slightly older studs like Leonardo DiCaprio, 38; Matt Damon, 42; and Ashton Kutcher, 34; own them, too, according to the New York Daily News.) Jonas, 23, was spotted letting his older brother, 25-year-old Kevin, take the wheel of his white Karma on Monday in Los Angeles, while "Twilight" actor Lautner, 20, cruised the streets of SoCal in his silver version last week. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Bieber, who received the car as a birthday gift from his manager, Scooter Braun, is regularly photographed driving his chrome Karma. He was even in it when he was memorably pulled over for speeding after a paparazzi chase on L.A.'s 101 Freeway in July.
The car, which came out this year, offers drivers the option of fueling up or plugging in for power. Arthur Patterson, the sales manager for Fisker Santa Monica, says the socially responsible aspect of owning a Karma is important to many of today's car shoppers. "It's probably one of the best-looking cars on the road — arguably — and you're able to have that type of vehicle [that's] new and beautiful-looking, but also plug-in electric, and the younger generation tend to be more environmentally friendly."
The only problem with the choice — as Bieber learned the hard way — is that Fisker Karmas are noticed by everyone, particularly photographers. But maybe that's another selling point for some celebs!
