True Whit

Whitney Port posted a pic of herself sporting luscious new locks on her website last week, exclaiming,"Back to blond!" I was lucky enough to catch up with Whitney, and from the sound of it -- blondes really do have more fun!

Just 25 years old, Whit has accomplished more than most girls her age could ever dream of achieving. She's starred on two major reality TV shows ("The Hills" and "The city"), and as a result was able to create and launch her own fashion line called Whitney Eve. Most recently, she's been busy jetting around the country promoting her new book, True Whit, in which she shares "personal stories, beauty and fitness secrets, and tried-and-true advice on everything girls need to know to start their lives out with style."

I chatted with Whitney about her new book, her relationship with fellow MTV star Ben Nemtin ("The Buried Life"), and whether or not she'd consider making a return to television.

When you were a kid, did you ever imagine you would become a published author?
Whitney: "This really is a dream come true. I never ever pictured myself being here. I have always loved to write, so it's not like [the book] is so out of the blue. But at the same time, just the subject matter, and where my life is right now -- that's something I never expected."

You said you're hoping to reach women in the "quarter-life" stage in your book. Why?
"I feel like I am going through everything that all of these other girls have gone through. I mean, some of it has clearly been shown on TV, so [my experience] may be a little bit different. But I feel like I am in the midst of a quarter-life crisis, for sure. I am really involved in my website, and I listen to all the girls out there that write to me and have questions, so I thought, why not answer their questions and put it all [into one book]?"

In your book, you talk about your health regimen. How do you stay in such great shape?
"The biggest thing for me, diet-wise, is to stay away from bread because it is one of my favorite things. In terms of exercise, when I am on my own or traveling, I try and do a little circuit of pushups and sit-ups, and then when I can get into the gym, I'll do cardio on the elliptical."

So is bread the evil of all things?
"Well, no. I really think everything [should be] in moderation. You are not going to gain weight overnight by eating some bread. Just keeping everything equal and not overdoing things."

We've all got things we love and hate about our bodies. What do you love/hate about yours?
"We definitely all have them! [On the negative side], everyone in my family -- it's just in our genes -- has pretty big boobs, and I don't love them. I know the grass is always greener on the other side. When you are flat you want boobs, and when you have boobs you want to be flat-chested, but I definitely would go the other way. My best feature, which is also genetic, are my legs. They are a little bit stick thin, but they haven't changed since I was 10 years old."

Alright, so you have big boobs, but why not flaunt it if you've got it?
"I definitely cover up. My grandmother always told me, 'If you got it, flaunt it,' but I am not comfortable with my boobs yet. And I am almost 26 years old! So, yeah that's one of my more self-conscious parts. And, obviously, there are other parts I want to work on -- like my arms."

Is everyone in the Port family as tall as you?
"No! I am one of five kids and there are four girls. The next one down from me is 5'6" and I am 5'10". My parents aren't even that tall either -- my mom is 5'6" and my dad is 5'11" so I don't really know where I got it from."

Let's talk boys! How is your boyfriend Ben Nemtin of "The Buried Life" fame?
"Everything is great [with Ben]. I have no complaints there."

What do you love most about your relationship with him?
"I think the best part of our relationship is that we never played any games, and that we were always really honest and open with each other in the beginning. And I think that just set a really good stage for what was to come. And we kept that going. We communicate about everything and we constantly talk to each other about how we are feeling. I've learned that! In my other relationships, I used to kind of expect guys to know what I was thinking. To just assume that they knew what my complaints were without having to say anything, and I learned that nobody can read your mind, so you really have to be able to talk."

You and Ben seem very supportive of each other when it comes to your professional goals.
"Yeah, definitely! It is kinda cool. I know that everyone thinks that when there are two people in the same industry that it is all competition and it is hard to find that balance. But I feel like we understand each other more and what we want from our careers. In that way, it is just easier because there is an unsaid understanding between us."

Let's talk gal pals. Do you still keep in touch with Lauren Conrad?
"I talk to her, here and there. I don't talk to her every day, but we definitely keep in touch. We see each other out a lot."

What's next? Would you ever go back to reality TV?
"Yeah, I definitely see myself going back on TV, but I don't know that it would necessarily be something so intimate and something that was following my personal life so closely. I think it would be fun to do something more career-oriented."
