Jet-Setting With the Jonas Brothers

The Jonas Brothers' "Surprise Theater Invasion Tour" came to an end yesterday. If you haven't heard, Nick, Joe, and Kevin flew around the country (with a little help from NetJets and Marquis Jet) thanking their fans personally at screenings of their new movie, "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience." The teen idols kicked their whirlwind tour off in Los Angeles, then headed to NYC, followed by Charlotte, Atlanta, Dallas, Austin, Las Vegas, and wrapped up the tour in San Francisco. Whew!

I was lucky enough to get to join the JoBros, their parents, and their bodyguard Big Rob on Saturday night as they made their way from Atlanta to Dallas on a 9:45 p.m. flight. I had no idea what to expect and wondered if the guys would be as nice in person as they seem in television interviews. Turns out they really are! They're not only super cute, but extremely charming.

Although they'd been awake since 4 a.m. -- and giving interviews all day -- the brothers gave me a warm welcome as I climbed aboard their fabulous private jet. They may be young, but these boys have manners! For example, when I was fuddling with my seat belt, Kevin lent me a helping hand. And during our interview, Nick suggested that they hold my digital recorder so I'd be able to hear their responses over all the white noise in the plane. They really won me over when, at one point during the flight, Nick simply turned to me and asked if I was having fun. How sweet is that? Let's just say, if I wasn't a Jonas Brothers fan before, I am now!

I'm sure you've been asked the same questions a million times today, so thanks for answering a few more from me.
Nick: We're happy to do it! Thank you for joining us.

All your fans will probably go see your new movie without you going on a cross-country tour, so why did you want to do this?
Nick: I think this whole thing has really been all about our fans and being able to experience [the premiere of our movie] with them. They made all these opportunities that we've had possible, so this is kind of our sincere thank you for all they've done for us.

Has anything like this ever been done before?
Nick: I don't know that anything like this has ever been done. We just wanted to think of a creative way to meet with our fans.

So how do your fans react to your surprise appearances?
Joe: It's a lot of screaming! It's fun to watch.

Your movie has been compared to the Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night." I assume you guys have seen it?
Nick: Of course! It was a big inspiration as far as the humor goes and kind of the spontaneous combustion of the music that's in the movie. We love the Beatles. They're a big inspiration for us as a band and we tried to incorporate some of that into this movie and pay tribute to it.

Which scene was the most fun for you to film?
Joe: I think all of the New York behind-the-scenes stuff when you get to see what our life is like every day. Also, there's like a little montage of what our tour life is like. That's so cool for us because that's what we live every day, so to capture that on film ... it's so nice for us to watch back. It's a little piece of [our] memory forever.

What do you think of all the Jonas Mania?
Joe: I think it's just a lot of fun. It's a wonderful blessing. We're able to travel the world, do what we love, and meet amazing people. To sum it all up, we're living our dream.

So what's the craziest thing one of your fans has ever done?
Nick: There have been a lot of crazy things. One time, we were on vacation in the Bahamas and we were at dinner as a family and this mother came up to the manager of the restaurant and said she wanted to go surprise her sons who were in the back -- the Jonas Brothers. Meanwhile, we were at dinner with our mom! So this woman was lying about being our mother to try and come back and get her daughters to take a picture with us. We had a good laugh about that one! I think we really do appreciate the effort that the fans make to try to get backstage and things like that. We are very flattered by it. They have very unique and amazing ways of showing their appreciation for us.

You grace the walls of many girls' bedroom walls. Have any of you ever hung a poster of someone you idolized in your rooms?
Joe: I was a big fan of Weezer, and I still am, but that was the only band that I ever had on my wall.

Nick: I have a couple of vinyl records on my wall right now -- 'The Rascals Retrospective' and 'The Animals Best Of.' I am a fan of old vinyl records, but I don't have anything plastered from magazines or anything!

Do you sometimes wish that you could go back to your regular life?
Joe: Sometimes you have those moments where you just want a day off, and then you play the White House or go on "SNL," so those moments fade away quickly!

You guys really have had an amazing year. You were at President Barack Obama's inauguration, you performed with Stevie Wonder at the Grammys ... What do you think has been your greatest experience so far?
Joe: I think we all have different moments. For me, 'SNL' is my favorite thing. I love everything, but that sticks out for me, personally. I've always wanted to do that and to do it well was really nice.

Nick: For me, being able to perform with Stevie Wonder at the Grammys was unbelievable. I don't think there are words for me to describe what an amazing experience that was. We had such a great time with him and we were so honored to be in the same room as him let alone playing with him.

Kevin: The Grammys was an incredible moment, but for me, I think it's the movie release. We've had a lot of firsts this year ... it's sort of been the year of firsts. We can't wait to see what else [this year] has in store for us!

Well, your TV show "J.O.N.A.S!" is going to be coming out soon.
Kevin: Yeah, it comes out in May and that's really exciting for us. We're a week and a half from being wrapped on it, which is kind of crazy. We're having a blast doing it and we cannot wait for everyone to see it and, hopefully, they'll enjoy it. We are new actors, so bear with us.

Do you take acting classes at all?
Kevin: Of course, in our free time. [Laughs]

Joe: Our first acting class, you can almost say, was "Camp Rock." That was our first acting experience. We learned a lot on the set from the other actors, but especially the director and from each other. You kind of feed off each other and you rehearse and I think that really helped us.

It's great that you've been able to experience all of this success together as brothers. Of course, this requires you to spend practically every waking moment together. Do you ever get on each other's nerves?
Joe: There are times when you're on each other's nerves for sure, but those moments, just like wanting a day off, they fade away quickly because you have a different respect for each other being in a band. You know that you can't get on stage and start fist fighting or yelling at each other because that's not how you can [accomplish] things.
