‘The Hunger Games’: Target to sell a $999 Mockingjay pin

Target might have to officially change its name to Tarjay after this one! The retailer, known for selling stylish merchandise at relatively inexpensive prices, is going to the next level. To mark the release of "The Hunger Games" on DVD on August 18, the chain store has announced that it will sell on its website three collectibles from the film at high-end prices. Fans of the post-apocalyptic, sci-fi series of books-turned-movies can purchase a leather replica of heroine Katniss' hunting jacket for $349 on August 18; a lithograph autographed by 10 "Hunger Games" stars including Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth for $699 on August 19; and a 14-karat gold replica of Katniss' Mockingjay pin for $999 on August 20. Only 100 of each item will be available.

For those of us who won't be dishing out almost $1,000 to dress like Katniss, Target is offering some "Hunger Games" items we can afford. The retailer will sell a special package of the film with 45 minutes of exclusive content, like interviews with the cast, for $20.99 on DVD or $25.99 on Blu-ray. The store will also stock cardboard cutouts of the movie's characters, "Hunger Games" jewelry, lunch boxes, and other offerings for a more reasonable $6.99 to $37.99. So you'll still have money left over for that $8 bubble bath, that $13 picture frame, or ... something else you don't need but really, really want!

Even more exciting is "The Hunger Games" actor Woody Harrelson's revelation that the blockbuster movie's sequel, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," will begin filming in September. During an interview with "CBS This Morning" on Monday, Harrelson explained that the cast would soon get to work in Atlanta and Hawaii. The finished film is set to hit theaters on November 22, 2013.
