College co-ed Dakota Fanning kicks back on her summer vacation

After spending her first year at New York University in the Big Apple, Dakota Fanning is back at home on the West Coast. The 18-year-old actress was photographed grabbing some grub at Mulberry Pizza, and browsing Decades clothing store, which sells vintage fashions from the '60s and '70s, in L.A. on Wednesday. So far, her summer's also included fast food runs to places like Panda Express, time at a dance studio, and a couple red carpet appearances. Don't worry, though, because Fanning plans to go back to work and school soon.

She's made it clear that college is important to her — and not just for the education. "You hear people say, 'Oh, when I was in high school' or 'When I was in college.' That defines a lot of who people are, and I didn't want to miss out on that," the "Twilight" star told W magazine last year.

Fanning's next movies will continue to show her in more grown-up roles. Besides "Twilight: Breaking Dawn — Part 2," IMDb reports that she'll star in the period drama "Effie," playing the teen bride of an art critic. The actor playing her significant other is Emma Thompson's 46-year-old husband Greg Wise! Then, in "Very Good Girls," with Elizabeth Olsen and Demi Moore, she'll play one of two teens who make a pact to lose their virginity in their first summer out of high school. The drama really begins when they fall for the same guy!
