Blake Lively: ‘Gossip Girl’ Is Not My Best Work

For the audience, watching "Gossip Girl" is like eating cotton candy — devoid of nutrition but oh-so delicious! Yes, we love it, but let's just say it's not wining any Emmy awards — or even nominations — anytime soon. Now Blake Lively, who's played Serena van der Woodsen, one of the show's leading ladies since it began in 2007, is acknowledging in a new interview that the teen sudser is not her finest performance. The 24-year-old, who's dating "The Proposal" star Ryan Reynolds, talks with Bullett magazine about her feelings heading into the show's sixth and final season. "I think the best way to describe it is like someone who really enjoyed high school, and is like, I'm a senior and I can't wait for the next thing!" Lively says. "'Gossip Girl' was so great, but what's the next challenge in life? Because, you know, six years is a long time. And as an actor who plays a caricature of myself on the show, I don't think I'd say, 'Watch 'Gossip Girl' for my best quality of work.' But I am very lucky to have had that experience."

For Lively, life after "Gossip Girl" will include more appearances on the big screen. In 2010, she earned raves for her turn as the drug-addicted ex-girlfriend of Ben Affleck's character in the movie "The Town." Next, she plays a woman in a relationship with two men at the same time who's kidnapped by a Mexican drug cartel in Oliver Stone's film "Savages." The movie, which comes out July 6 and features big names like Benecio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, and John Travolta, was a challenge for the Southern California native. "To play a blond California girl who gets with two men was scary. If it looks like me and talks like me, how do I turn it into something different?" Lively asks. "It would have been easier if I'd been thrown into the movie with a Scottish accent and purple hair."

While she's willing to dish on her work, Lively remains mum when it comes to her relationships. She does, however, reveal that she tends to be very loyal to people she chooses to have in her life. And, surprisingly, Lively notes that meeting new people has not been more difficult since she became a household name. "The way that I meet people is the same way that I've always met people. It might be weird if I was on JDate, but I'm not, so that's good," jokes the former girlfriend of Leonardo DiCaprio and "Gossip Girl's" Penn Badgley. "I meet so many people in passing at parties, but I've never been a person who's like, I know I just met you, but let's exchange numbers and be best friends."
