Justin Bieber gives NYC fans a glimpse of his hamster, Pac

Since his relationship with Selena Gomez is reportedly in the off-again phase, Justin Bieber has been enjoying cuddle time with … his hamster.

In New York City for a stop on his Believe tour, the 18-year-old gave fans who had gathered outside of his tour bus a glimpse of his new furry friend, Pac, on Monday. First, the "Boyfriend" singer, who performed that night at the shiny new Barclay Center in Brooklyn, popped his head out of the bus — to the delight of a waiting mob of admirers. Bieber, who sported a hat with the word "dope" emblazoned across it, then disappeared for a moment and reemerged extending just his hand … which held little Pac. We imagine the squealing Beliebers gave Pac a warm reception!

Pac has become the official mascot of Bieber's tour, which extends into 2013. After buying his critter companion late last month, the teen heartthrob immediately introduced the little guy to the Twitterverse. "This is Pac the hamster, my new believe tour pet," he posted in late October. "I will bring him to every meet n greet."

Bieber did not elaborate on the inspiration behind the name Pac — A secret message to Selena Gomez? Knock-off of Pax (Jolie-Pitt)? Tribute to Tupac? — but celebrities are well known for getting creative with monkiers, so we're just glad The Biebs was picking a name for an animal — and not a baby! There was also no word on whether the young star is now employing a PHH — that would be a personal hamster handler, of course! — to care for Pac while he is busy performing, giving interviews, and possibly trying to win back Gomez. We'll keep an eye out.

Fingers crossed that Pac sticks around longer in Bieber's life longer than his last pet. Last year, the Canadian superstar auctioned off his baby albino boa constrictor, Johnson, to raise funds for child education charity Pencils of Promise. But don't worry — the snake, which Bieber had wrapped around his wrist at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, actually had a happily ever after ending and now lives peacefully at the Reptile & Amphibian Discovery Zoo in Minnesota.

Sure beats life in a tour bus!
