People confirmed the "Larger Than Life" news Friday afternoon. "I had the ring in my pocket for two weeks," he told People. "I was like, 'I don't want it anymore!' It was driving me insane. I just wanted to get it out of my hands and on to hers."
According to People, Carter took his fitness expert/actress fiancée to the Florida Keys to pop the question. When he took her out on his boat that he hadn’t used in six years, the engine stalled a few times as they headed out to sea. Eventually, he proposed on a small island that he spent time on as a child, which they now refer to as “Engagement Island.”
Carter, 33, who has reportedly struggled with substance abuse, has had a rocky journey into adulthood. In 2011, around the two-year anniversary of the death of Michael Jackson, he claimed that his friend the King of Pop gave him cocaine and alcohol when he was just 15 years old.
Clearly, 2013 is turning out to be a happier year for Carter than 2012 was, as he lost his younger sister, Leslie, to a drug overdose in February 2012.
The Backstreet Boys are also working on a new album that’s reportedly due out this year, in celebration of their 20th anniversary together.
