Robert Pattinson on set of 'Maps to the Stars' (FameFlynet)
In a new interview with GQ Spain, the "Twilight" hunk reveals he never thought about becoming an actor, let alone a big star.
"It’s strange, you can’t have a normal life," the 27-year-old actor says. "You spend a lot of time trying to fight it, but at the end you end up finding a new way to live. People don’t notice how lonely you are. In any case, I feel fortunate because I didn’t achieve success too young and I was at least able to have a life before.
Continues Rob: "When you become famous, it’s so easy for people to hate you just because you are famous … So you try to beat yourself up so others can’t."
Kristen Stewart's ex went on to explain how he never thought the vampire franchise would be such a big hit.
"I lived in a tiny apartment when the premiere came and I didn’t know if we were going to do the sequels," Rob recalls of the first film that hit theaters in 2008. "Then the opening weekend came and it was like: 'Oops, now we’re going to have to do the sequels.'”
Apparently now that Rob — who is the face of Dior Homme — has had some distance from the successful franchise, there are some parts of the phenomenon that still baffle him.
"The real odd thing about this 'Twilight' target group is that they aren’t really teenagers," he notes. "Most of them are older. 'Twilight' has its own parallel world, its own fan culture that has been forming on the net since day one. And in an intense way that has never existed before. Sometimes I ask myself what these masses of people do the whole day. They sit in front of their computers and comment on anything having even remotely to do with 'Twilight.'"
In the same interview, Rob also reiterates how much he hates the nickname "R.Pattz" that the media so often uses.
"I'd like to strangle the guy that came up with it," the actor laughs, admitting he knows who it is, but only referring to the aforementioned guy as "some fat celebrity blogger."
We hope calling him Rob is still OK.
