#PureSilliness: Ellen Page Renames All the Dogs on the Internet
Ellen Page is doggone obsessed with pet names.
The "X-Men: Days of Future Past" has brought her apparent favorite pastime — renaming dogs! — to Twitter. And while the 27-year-old merely started doing it for fans, some other celebrities, including Lena Dunham and Kate Mara, were brought in on the action, too.
Here's the tweet that started it all:
I love renaming my friends dogs like a total jerk.
— Ellen Page (@EllenPage) April 22, 2014
From there, a flurry of her followers asked to be a part of her "total jerk"-iness by coming up with new names for their four-legged friends:
“@_charlestrippy: @EllenPage wanna rename mine??? pic.twitter.com/Zew4Kw691I” thora

“@ofmiceandgranta: @EllenPage rename my dog pic.twitter.com/MTAnKCZr2M” Jordan

Some were even given celeb names:

“@SnowFey: @EllenPage Her name is Sidney, after Sidney Prescott from Scream, how would you name her? pic.twitter.com/Y1rtVJKkfq” Neve Cambell
— Ellen Page (@EllenPage) April 23, 2014
The fun wasn't limited to pooches. She also renamed a cat:

And a shark. Well, sorta:

Her new game quickly won celebrity fans, including Anna Kendrick:
@EllenPage This was the greatest use of twitter I've ever seen #BowDownBitches #AndBoyDogsToo
— Anna Kendrick (@AnnaKendrick47) April 22, 2014
Page then randomly offered up name suggestions for Kate Mara's dogs:
@EllenPage Thanks! They are confused but flattered... pic.twitter.com/DIVa08T2lT
— Kate Mara (@_KateMara) April 23, 2014
And Lena Dunham asked to get in on the action, submitting a photo of her adopted dog, Lamby, in bed with her boyfriend, Fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff.
“@lenadunham: @EllenPage rename ours because this is joyful! #pleaseandthankyou pic.twitter.com/7WiGKCt2ho” Miranda
— Ellen Page (@EllenPage) April 23, 2014
After two days of this taking over her Twitter feed, Page admitted that things seem to have spiraled out of control. Late Tuesday night she posted:
Guys, I don't know how to stop this
— Ellen Page (@EllenPage) April 23, 2014
Well, we hope it never stops. We agree with Anna Kendrick — looking at dog pix and giving them silly names? This is exactly what the internet is for. Carry on, friend.
