Michael Bublé recently learned an important lesson: posting a mystery woman's butt on social media is probably a bad idea.

Most people know this intuitively, but some people need... schooling. And Bublé definitely got schooled by the brutally honest teachers on social media after he posted this picture on both Instagram and Twitter, along with the caption, "There was something about this photo Lu took, that seemed worthy of Instagram."

The hashtags demonstrate Bublé's wide vocabulary when it comes to buttspeak. "#myhumps #babygotback #hungryshorts #onlyinmiami #beautifulbum." Just, ew.

For the record, Bublé is a married man. He's married to Luisana Lopilato, and it seem as though she is the one who took the picture. But his marital status didn't exonerate him — commenters raised their metaphorical spears and lambasted him.

Bublé has since released a statement in resposne to his critics. "Anybody who knows me would never misinterpret the message of the photo my wife took in Miami that seems to have caused unexpected rage by some people. I do not court controversy. But I realize that a photo that was meant to be complimentary and lighthearted has turned into a questionable issue," he said. "For the record, it hurts me deeply that anyone would think that I would disrespect women or be insulting to any human being ... I was not brought up that way and it is not in my character. I regret that there are people out there who found the photo offensive. That was not and is not my intention. Women are to be celebrated, loved, respected, honored and revered. I've spent my life believing that and will continue to do so."

Of course, some people did catch that Bublé was not trying to be disrespectful.

But they were in the minority.

Some tweeters took action:

Others incidentally made puns out of it.

This is not the first time Bublé's owned up to his buffoonish dude behavior; he said he was a "jerk" to ex-girlfriend Emily Blunt, so at least he's got that going for him (the admitting when he's wrong part — not the jerkishness).

But bottom line (pun not intended): a celeb status doesn't grant you permission to broadcast someone's backside to your followers, and it's quite simply not cool to post someone's butt without her permission — unless, of course, it's her prerogative (we're lookin' at you, Kim Kardashian).
