Larry Hagman’s Beach Penthouse For Sale for $5.2 Million

TV fans mourned the loss of a small-screen legend in November when Larry Hagman passed away at the age of 81. And while most of us knew Hagman had a lucrative TV career with long-lasting roles on series like “I Dream of Jeanie” and “Dallas,” it turns out the Texas-born star was also a bit of a real estate mogul in his day.

"I have an apartment in New York, a ranch in Santa Fe, a castle in Ojai outside of L.A., a beach house in Malibu and thinking of buying a place in Santa Monica," Hagman once said in a Chicago Tribune interview. The actor sold the Malibu pad to Sting way back in the 1990s for $7 million; the Ojai “castle” (which is actually 20,000 square feet) is currently for sale for $6.495 million; and he did indeed buy that Santa Monica place he was thinking about – an oceanfront penthouse.

Now, two months after his death, the 3,000-square-foot apartment is now officially for sale for $5.2 million. Though the apartment only has two bedrooms and two and a half baths, you can’t beat the sweeping views, which the next owner can enjoy from floor-to-ceiling windows that wrap around the entire penthouse. And unlike many listings for celebrity-owned homes up for sale, this one isn’t shy about sharing the fact it once belonged to the TV star, stating it in the listing and including his signature cowboy hat in some of the pics.

And while the decor will need a bit of updating (Wild wallpaper that blends into the bedspreads, anyone? How about some blue carpet?) the place has other perks. The unit shares a glass elevator (that opens directly into the unit) with just seven other residences and the building is a sought-after one. “The entire home simulates a permanently docked mega yacht,” states the listing. If only Larry were still around to sail it …
