Two thieves burglarized the Brooklyn Heights home of the star of FX's "The Americans" on Wednesday while she was asleep inside.
Ronald Swindell, 50, and his nephew Steffon Swindell, 19, broke into Russell's brownstone at approximately 3 a.m. ET, a police source tells omg! The robbers then hit up another nearby location and were caught by a sharp-witted 70-year-old resident who spotted them fleeing the scene.
"The suspects entered through an unlocked window," the police source said. "They stole a Filson bag, earrings, a Mac Book Air laptop computer, and a necklace. The victim awoke to the sounds of footsteps and two voices upstairs. When she went upstairs the front door and living room window were open, and the items were missing."
No injuries were reported and it's unclear if Russell's husband, Shane Deary, son, River, 6, or daughter, Willa Lou, 1, were home also at the time.
"The thieves then proceeded to another location at (nearby) Remsen Street, at 5:20 a.m. ET, where a 70-year-old woman reported having an iPad and a laptop stolen. The second victim saw two suspects fleeing, who were later caught nearby and then charged. They were in possession of the both victims' property when they were apprehended."
The Swindells were charged with burglary for the second location, but only charged with possession of stolen property for the break-in at Russell's house. It's unclear if Russell's property has been returned yet to her at this time or if it's still being processed as evidence.
"Everyone is fine and Keri sends her thanks to the police," a rep for Russell told the New York Daily News.
The home where Russell was burglarized is only a short-term home for the actress. According to Page Six, she's living there temporarily with her family while her husband completes further renovations on their main abode in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn (recently profiled by ELLE DECOR).
Russell is best known for her title role in the J.J. Abrams show "Felicity," which ran for four seasons on The WB network from 1998 - 2002. She won a Golden Globe and Teen Choice Award in 1999 for her breakout performance. Before starring alongside Matthew Rhys in FX’s "The Americans" in 2013, she's starred on the big screen in such hit films as "Mission: Impossible III," "Waitress," and "Extraordinary Measures." She'll appear next summer in "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," the sequel to 2011's surprise hit "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."
