As close as Katherine Jackson was to her son Michael, there were a few important things she didn't know about him.

The Jackson family matriarch revealed in her second and final day of testimony at the Jackson trial that she was surprised to discover her son had problems with his finances and drugs when he died in 2009.

Jackson, along with Michael's children, is suing concert promoter AEG, claiming that it employed Dr. Conrad Murray — the man who provided the singer with the drug propofol that killed him — and is, therefore, responsible for his death.

Speaking about Michael's money woes, the 83-year-old Jackson said, "I heard that from different people. I heard for years that Michael Jackson was broke but he wasn't."

Michael paid for many of Katherine's living expenses and sometimes gave her cash as a gift, she revealed, adding that her daughter Janet provides her with another $10,000 a month.

As for the drugs, Jackson said she knew that her son took painkillers for his back and scalp, but he never appeared to abuse them. However, her other children suspected that he was an addict, and they held an intervention for Michael at his Neverland Ranch in 2002, which didn't go well. Michael, who did not appear to be on drugs at the time, yelled at the family, Katherine said.

Whenever she asked her son whether or not he had a problem, he said no. (In court, AEG's lawyers played video of an interview Katherine did with Oprah Winfrey in 2010 in which Katherine claimed her son was an addict.)

"I'm a mother, quite naturally he denied it," she said. "He wouldn't want me to think that."

Still, Katherine made it clear that she believes AEG, the company behind Michael's last scheduled tour, pushed him too hard. AEG emails from the weeks before Michael's death, which were presented at the trial, described the performer's health as deteriorating.

"They watched him waste away," she said. "They could have called me."

Although AEG says Michael hired Murray on his own, Katherine claimed she had never heard of Murray until Michael's death and that Michael only gave the physician money because he felt sorry for him.

"Even though he asked for it, [Murray] could have said no," she said.
