Kara DioGuardi Gets a New Protégé: A Baby Boy

Cries may not sound harmonious, but they’re sure to please former “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi.

The music writer and producer and husband Mike McCuddy welcomed a son Thursday. Greyson James Carroll McCuddy was born via gestational surrogate at 1:01 p.m. PT, measured 20.75 inches long and weighed in at 8 lbs., 10 oz., according to People.

After multiple failed attempts at IVF, DioGuardi and McCuddy decided that using a surrogate was their best next option.

“I asked someone we knew, a friend. And on the first try, it worked,” she said in a previous interview. “She’s been a gem throughout the whole process. ... I’ve got two people on my mind: her and the baby. She’s given us this incredible gift.”

We’re not sure where the name Greyson came from – it means ‘son of the gray-haired man’ and McCuddy has a nice brown coif – but Carroll is reportedly in honor of DioGuardi’s late mother.

DioGuardi, 42, married McCuddy, 38, a general contractor, in July 2009. The couple recently sold their home in the San Fernando Valley for just under $7 million.
