Kanye West charges a photographer at LAX. (FameFlynet)
The 36-year-old rapper has been charged with two misdemeanor crimes, one for battery and one for attempted grand theft, for his July 19 altercation with a paparazzo at Los Angeles International Airport, according to the L.A. City Attorney's Office. The video which captured the incident shows West rushing at the photographer - after he and a pack of colleagues refused to stop snapping photos of West - and wrestling him to the ground.
If convicted, West faces a maximum of six months of jail time for each misdemeanor. His arraignment is set for October 10, although he's not required to be in court that day.
Last month, the photographer, Daniel Ramos, filed a lawsuit against West, claiming that his right hip was injured in the incident. Ramos is represented by famed celebrity attorney Gloria Allred whose filing accuses the star of assault, battery, negligence, and violation of civil rights.
West can at least take solace in the fact that the L.A. County District Attorney's office recently decided against filing charges of felony assault and attempted robbery in the case, after it determined Ramos was not significantly injured, per investigators.
This isn't the first time that Kim Kardashian's main squeeze has been involved in a brawl with the paps … and it's not likely to be the last.
He was arrested at the airport in 2008 when he and his road manager confronted photographers and smashed their cameras. The "Blood On the Leaves" artist was required to complete 50 hours of community service and attend 12 hours of anger management classes after that.
Anger management or not, West still regularly clashes with shutterbugs intent on capturing a profitable image of West, his notorious gal pal, and now, their 3-month-old baby North, whom the couple has been able to keep under wraps so far.
The new parents were glimpsed sans the newest member of the family on Thursday, as they stopped at the site where their $11 million future family home is being built in Bel-Air, California.
This should be a happy time for West, but it looks like he'll have this hanging over his head for a while …UPDATE Nov. 7, 2013: West pleaded not guilty to all counts. His attorney, Blair Berk, entered the plea on Kanye's behalf. His next court date was set for Jan. 23, 2014, but because it is a misdemeanor case, the rapper is not required to appear.
