Ever since Justin Timberlake made his big announcement on Friday that he was “ready” to release new music, fans have been anxiously counting down the hours until midnight on Monday for the big debut. Less than an hour before, his big secret leaked onto the Internet: “Suit & Tie,” featuring Jay-Z, Timberlake’s first new single in over six years.

So, is it any good? Depends on who you ask. Although the “Social Network” actor’s falsetto is still swoon-worthy, general consensus is that the track isn’t immediately catchy, like “Rock Your Body” or “SexyBack.” And Jay-Z’s appearance mid-way – where he gives Beyonce’s mother and father a shout-out for creating her – fails to truly impress and seems kind of out of place. Of course, “Suit & Tie” could be one of those songs that you have to hear a few times before it starts to grow on you … because after a second spin, it certainly sounds a lot better than upon first listen.

As for Timberlake’s famous fans, they’re somewhat divided, although more like it than don’t. In his corner, Jordin Sparks, who tweeted a lyric, “As long as I got my suit & tie, Imma leave it all on the floor tonight,” and then added, “So stoked for the rest!!!” R&B singer Maxwell, is also a fan. “WE LOVE @JTimberlake #Suita&Tie,” he wrote on Twitter. However, Lo Bosworth, who used to be on “The Hills,” asked on Twitter if the song was “a joke … pass for me.”

Despite some of the ambiguity by some fans, critics give it a thumbs up. Yahoo! Music’s Billy Johnson Jr. calls “Suit & Tie” Timberlake’s “most soulful release yet” and says the “more mature sound saturated in a live band feel with trumpets, saxophones, bass guitar, chimes and cowbells that recall the rich soul music of the ‘70s.” Rolling Stone describes the song “as expertly tailored and crisply pressed as a high-end tux” that is “likely to inspire many new dance routines.” Still, in a poll on Billboard.com, 44% liked it, while another 27% claimed to be “disappointed” with “Suit & Tie.”

In an open letter to fans after its release, Timberlake revealed the title of his upcoming third album is “The 20/20 Experience,” and will be released “this year” on RCA Records. “Back in June of last year, I quietly started working on what is now, my next journey with that thing I love called MUSIC,” he wrote. “The inspiration for this really came out of the blue and to be honest, I didn't expect anything out of it. I just went into the studio and started playing around with some sounds and songs. It was probably the best time I've had in my career ... Just creating with no rules and/or end goal in mind and really enjoying the process. What I came up with is something I couldn't be more excited about! It is full of inspiration that I grew up listening to and some newfound muses that I've discovered along the way … I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.”
