January Jones Reveals Downside of Going from Brunette to Blonde: ‘My Hair is Falling Out in Clumps’

January Jones may have more fun as a blonde… but she also has a little less hair as a result.

Last week, the “Mad Men” actress went back to blonde, her third hair color in just a matter of months! In November, Jones debuted a brunette ‘do -- and before that in June, she went fiery red (with super long extensions) for her new movie “Sweetwater” – and now, her poor scalp is paying the high price of beauty.

“I have been every color and now my hair is falling out in clumps,” the 35-year-old told British magazine Grazia Daily while promoting “Sweetwater” at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. “I’m going to have to shave it off and wear a wig!"

Although she looks beautiful in every shade, Jones doesn't have a preference on her favorite hue. "I like it all colors, it makes you feel different according to what color it is, but I prefer to be blonde. My son recognizes me in photos when I am blonde. He says, ‘Mama' ... I didn’t get treated differently when I was red-headed, but when I went dark for a few months, I was suddenly invisible. Not just as a celebrity, but to my friends and family. I was like, 'Come on you guys, it’s me!'"

Jones, who is single mom to 16-month-old son Xander, has played with her hair color in the past. Before she went brunette, her hair was a golden red color in late October – perhaps the result of the bright red washing out. But her most playful look was definitely last March when she showed up to the fifth season premiere of “Mad Men” with a pink streak in her hair.

“It’s just my time to do something different and fun,” she told InStyle at the time. Although she had wanted something a little “sunnier,” after her stylist pushed for the unconventional color, Jones agreed. “It sounded fun. We decided that they are rose gold highlights. Class it up a bit. I’m on hiatus so I can do what I want to [my hair].”

Now that “Mad Men” is coming back for its sixth season on April 7, Jones is back to Betty Draper blonde.
