Kevin Smith would never be asked to buy two seats on an airplane now.

The director and podcaster, 44, has lost 85 pounds after being inspired by the 2014 documentary Fed Up, which ties the country's sugar addiction to the obesity epidemic. "Left: me & my kid in 2008. Right: 2 weeks ago, 85 pounds later. I shan't wear pants and will never abort the shorts," Smith captioned a before-and-after snapshot of his transformation.

Smith initially lost 65 pounds after he was booted from a Southwest Airlines flight back in 2010 for his size. The crew told him that for the safety of all passengers, he needed to buy more than one seat. However, he appeared to have put some weight back on by 2013. He started losing again after changing his lifestyle last year.

"Since I was a kid, it was always, 'eat what you want,'" Smith told Men's Health in February. "I was the third child, so by the time my parents got to me, man, they were f---ing tired, so they were never, like, 'Eat your vegetables, Kevin.' So I just ate what I wanted, and — I know how f---ing stupid this sounds, man, but... I kind of thought, 'Well, um, sugar comes out of the ground, so it can't be too terrible for me, right?' Which is just ridiculous. So then I watch this documentary last year, and I was, like, 'Oh, man, um, I really don't wanna die — and I'm already 44 years old."

The Clerks director revealed "the pounds just started flying off" when he changed what he drinks, ditching sodas and fruit juices for vegetable juices.

"My friend, Jeff Anderson, the guy that played Randall in Clerks, I was talking to him after I dropped some pounds and I was asking how he keeps in shape, and he's, like, 'I've been juicing,'" Smith explained to the magazine. " So he gave me this recipe: like eight fistfuls of spinach, half an apple, half a cucumber, half a lemon, a dime-sized nugget of ginger. He's like, 'Start with that.' So I did. And you can't believe how f---ing terrible it tastes! I just drank it with my nose pinched close and gulped it down really f---ing fast."

He eventually tinkered with the recipe by adding half a beet and half a carrot.

As for exercise, his regime is pretty simple.

"My 'working out' is I've got this hill outside my house — like, right outside my house, you walk out the door and — boom! — you're on this hill, so I'll take my dogs out and see who starts breathing heavy and sweating first," Smith noted. "I don't really exercise. I'm not a 'fifty reps' kind of guy. I just walk everyday."

Last August, Smith explained on Facebook that he used one more trick for weight loss on the set of his comedy horror movie Tusk.

"True story: on Tusk, I learned how to lose weight WHILE making a movie. The secret is to not eat sugar and stand all day," he shared. "I never sit behind the monitor: I'm always moving now. I've been wearing a Jawbone bracelet and using the UP app to count my daily steps and every day this week, I've averaged 12,000. That's close to walking 5 miles a day. I NEVER walk 5 miles a day EVER. So while I stand there every day making this weird little movie with my kid and her friend in it, I've been quietly cutting pounds in the process. This is why I've been stringing so many movies together lately: filmmaking, for me, has proven to be an excellent exercise regiment [sic]."

The comic book fanatic posted another photo this month that showed him sporting an ensemble that probably collected a lot of dust in the closet.

"Last wore this to the 97 Spirit Awards," he captioned it. "Lost 85 pounds so I dug up outfit to see if it still fits. Too big on me now!" As promised, it looks like Smith won't be changing his wardrobe.

Although, he really should change the name of one of his podcasts, "Fat Man on Batman."
