Malin Akerman may be one of Hollywood's biggest stars now, but life hasn't always been so fortunate for the new mommy.
She revealed to ABC's "On the Red Carpet" that when she first moved to Los Angeles she had no place to live and no source of income. "I've had moments of being completely homeless," she said. "When I first came out here, I was completely jobless for a whole year.It was not fun, but I was young enough that I didn't have anyone depending on me."
Malin does not seem to have forgotten her humble past and makes a point of giving to others in need. The blond beauty is now a Young Ambassador for Opportunity International, a nonprofit organization that provides help and stability to more than five million people living in poverty all over the world.
She has hosted numerous events and has been hands-on in raising money to build technical schools in countries such as Nicaragua and Tanzania. She has even referred to her work with the charity as "more exciting than landing a movie with Tom Cruise."
