Former ‘Idol’ Judge Kara DioGuardi to Welcome a Son

Just because she’s no longer on “Idol” doesn’t mean Kara DioGuardi is just being idle.

All bad puns aside, we’re pleased for the former “American Idol” judge, as she’s just told People that she and husband Mike McCuddy will be welcoming their first child in just a few weeks. Their son will be born via gestational surrogate.

“We are eagerly awaiting the healthy and happy birth of our son, Greyson James Carroll McCuddy,” DioGuardi tells the magazine.

DioGuardi, 42, married McCuddy, 38, a general contractor, in July 2009. Since then, the songwriter and music publisher has talked openly about wanting children.

People reports that DioGuardi had multiple failed IVF attempts and considered adoption before deciding on using a surrogate.

“I asked someone we knew, a friend. And on the first try, it worked,” she said. “We’re praying for our surrogate, that she gets through this and that it’s as easy on her as it can possibly be, because she’s been a gem throughout the whole process. ... I’ve got two people on my mind: her and the baby. She’s given us this incredible gift.”

We’re not quite sure of the story behind their future son’s name, as “Greyson” literally means “son of the grey-haired man” and McCuddy isn’t quite there yet. Maybe they’re just fans of the ABC show “Revenge.”
