The singer joined Instagram two days earlier so he could share "special moments" from his "big day" and he hasn't disappointed. He also posted an early morning shot of the estate grounds, writing, "Good morning! Nice day for a wedding."

John and Furnish, 52, have been together for 21 years. In 2005, they entered into a civil partnership with a private, 20-minute ceremony at the town hall in Windsor. The ceremony was followed by a $2 million reception for more than 600 guests at the singer's nearby mansion.

Once same-sex marriage was legalized in London with the law going into effect this year, Sir Elton told Matt Lauer he and David would officially tie the knot, but in a more low-key ceremony.

"We'll do it very quietly. But we will do it and it will be a joyous occasion and we will have our children [there]," John said in March. "For this legislation to come through is joyous and we should celebrate it. We shouldn't just say, 'Oh, well, we have a civil partnership, we're not going to bother to get married'. We will get married."

"We don’t feel the need to take an extra step legally. But since we're committed for life, we feel it's really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation. We all live by example," Furnish added in a separate interview at the time, saying it wouldn't be as lavish as in 2005. "But with the kids, everything is different. I think what we'll do is go to a registry office in England in May, and take the boys with us, and a couple of witnesses."

The couple first met in 1993.

"In 1993 I went back to my house in Windsor for a while. I wanted meet new people so I rang up a friend in London and said, 'Could you please rattle some new people together for dinner here Saturday?'" Elton recalled to Parade in 2010. "I was attracted to David immediately. He was very well dressed, very shy. The next night we had dinner. After it, we consummated our relationship. We fell in love very quickly."

Cheers to the next two decades.
